On Monday, I began a challenge that I did once before. I am again joining with over 1000 others from around the world and Mom’s Toolbox to Read the Bible in 90 days. Yes, just 3 short months to go cover to cover. This week we finished Genesis in 4 days and are moving on to Exodus.
The stories in Genesis are so familiar to me that I tend to read quickly, thinking that I know them and I know how they end. My goal for myself has been to slow down and read carefully and find a verse or 2 every day that says something to me. These are the verses from Genesis that spoke to me this week.
Genesis 4:7 ” If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” Sin is waiting for me, it wants me to follow it. I must rule over it, turn my back on it, say “no” to it. I must strive to do what is right. But, this is not something that I am capable of on my own. Only with God in control of my life am I able to rule over sin. He will always be with me to help me choose what is right if I let Him.
Genesis 22:8 ” Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.” Abraham was told to sacrifice his only son. And he went to do it. But yet, he had faith in God. He told his servants that “we will be back”, meaning he and Isaac. Here, he tells Isaac that God would provide the lamb. He trusted God even when it must not have made much sense.
Genesis 49:10 “The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.” Foreshadowing to Christ, who would come from the line of Judah.
